Youth missing from picnic spot after scuffle

A 23-year-old youth went missing mysteriously when he went for a picnic with his friends at Rocky Island near Jaldhaka in Jalpaiguri. The youth, Titu Roy, went missing on Sunday evening and his family members lodged a complaint with the police on Monday.

A police officer said that Roy used to work as a security guard of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College and he was a resident of Paresh Palli area, which is close to the college.

Police came to know from his family members that he went for the picnic with some of his friends in the locality. After reaching the picnic spot, Roy and his friends found that another group from their area went for the picnic.

Some of the members from both the groups were in an inebriated state and suddenly a scuffle broke out between members of both the groups. They even pelted stones at each other and a girl child received head injuries when a stone hit her on the head. The situation turned worse and a clash broke out between the two groups.

The local people informed the police. Police rushed to the spot and took the child to hospital. She was treated and discharged. But the authorities of the picnic spot didn't allow members of both the groups to go as they had damaged many valuables.

But Roy was not present there when all others were not allowed to go. Finally, Roy's friends were allowed to go after being fined Rs 10,000 for damaging valuables. After returning to the locality they came to know that Roy didn't return.

Roy's family members lodged a complaint with Jaldhaka police station. Police initiated a search for him but they are yet to trace him out. The police also spoke to the picnic spot's authorities, but they failed to give any clue about him.
