Police arrested a Bangladeshi national on the charge of carrying a fake Indian passport on Tuesday morning at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. The incident happened just a day after a man was caught with a huge amount of cash money at the airport on Monday. Police suspect that the man was involved with a hawala racket.
Mohammad Alauddin, the middle-aged person who was arrested on Tuesday was taken to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport police station for interrogation.
The investigators suspected that the man may be connected with some fake passport racket operating in the state.
Police interrogated Alauddin for a long time. The investigators, though, were tight-lipped about any further development of the investigation.
"Alauddin had gone to Bangladesh twice from Kolkata. He was a resident of Dhaka. He came to India in 2014 and started to reside in Rajabazar," said a police officer.
"The accused was roaming around the immigration department. The CISF caught him from there. He was taken to the police station for interrogation," an immigration department officer said.
It should be recalled that a Nepali national was arrested on the charge of carrying a fake passport at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport – Kolkata a few months ago. The accused woman was taken to additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court at North 24 Parganas' Barrackpore. The accused was charged with illegal admission to the country. Police said that Ashima Chettri was going to Kuala Lumpur. She was caught during a checking by the Custom officers. She was detained there and transferred to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBIA) police station. The woman was thoroughly interrogated.
The incidents of fake passport travelling are frequent in Kolkata airport. The intelligence wing, CISF, central intelligence branch and National Investigation Agency (NIA) have been keeping a close eye on every such incident.
On Sunday, security personnel at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport nabbed two persons with a huge amount of unexplained cash. The two persons were later taken to Airport police station.
