I-T dept to set up digital depository to store important documents

State Information Technology and Electronics department will set up a digital depository in which government departments and educational institutions will be able to store important documents such as school leaving certificates, college degrees, academic awards, mark-sheets and licenses and other important testimonials.

Based on estimated list of Hardware/ Software and resource requirements for the digital depository, the cost of developing, implementation, maintenance and support for five years, the estimated cost will be around Rs 11 crore. This will make administration transparent and the files will be properly preserved.

To ensure that only the authentic documents are uploaded in the system, the issuer departments, private agencies will be given the right to upload the documents whereas government to citizen services will be made available for viewing and downloading the documents.

The digital depository will benefit the people immensely. Firstly, the issuer departments will directly upload necessary citizen testimonials and also departmental documents onto a secure online platform after digitally signing the same. Secondly, the depository will ease validation of the authenticity of documents as they will be issued directly and will be digitally signed by the registered issuers. Thirdly, it will help create a highly secured centralised depository of digitally signed e documents with easy update, retrieval and administration facilities for departments and organisations with the state.

It will eliminate administrative overhead of government and private entities by minimising the use of paper and by uploading digital documents. Authorised people can request for access to important citizen records and digital documents anytime and anywhere.
