Two arrested for smuggling narcotics in Malda

Police arrested two persons from Englishbazar in Malda on charges of smuggling narcotic substances.

Police arrested Israel Sheikh and Md Yusuf when they were taking puppy seeds weighing more than 4 tonne in a truck.

Investigation revealed that the accused had procured the materials from Kaliachak and they had plans to sell it out to a person in Uttar Pradesh.

Police said that the seized materials worth Rs 10 lakh.

Investigation revealed that the accused were involved in inter-state drug smuggling racket. They police are also trying to arrest rest of the members of the racket.

This comes at the time when the state police are taking stringent measures to check the smuggling of narcotic substances.

The steps were taken after several people were arrested and a huge quantity narcotic substances were seized in the past few months.

According to the investigating agencies, the drug is in high demand in India and Bangladesh. Investigating officers have come to
know about certain new routes which the smugglers are using to avoid getting caught by the police.

As a result, the vigilance in those routes has been intensified and it led to the arrest of Israel and Yusuf.

Police consider it to be a major breakthrough as the duo will help the police to arrest the entire racket.

After some youth were arrested, the investigating officers had revealed that many people are involved in the racket and mainly youths get involved in the racket to make fast money.
