Shrinu murder: One more arrested from Bihar

Police arrested one more person from Muzaffarpur in Bihar on Sunday in connection with the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Shrinu Naidu.

Police said the accused Md Jasim was the driver of the car that was being used by the miscreants to reach the Trinamool Congress' party office at Kharagpur where Shrinu was shot dead. The miscreants had fled in the same car.

Police had earlier arrested nine persons in this connection including the mastermind of the murder, Shankar Rao.

The police interrogated the arrested persons and came to know about Md Jasim. He is a resident of Kharagpur and he had fled after three of the accused had got arrested. He fled apprehending that the arrested accused would reveal his name.

Police went to Jasim's house, but they couldn't find him there. Later, the police received a tip-off that he was hiding in a friend's house at Muzaffarpur in Bihar.

The car that was used in the operation to kill Shrinu has also been seized. The police are yet to arrest one more accused in this connection.

It is learnt that Shankar told to the police that he was not involved in the crime as he had no reason to kill Shrinu. But the police are trying to get hold of the "main person" behind the crime. However, he told the police that he was not at all aware whether the state BJP president Dilip Ghosh was involved in the crime.

A police officer said the owner of the car would be interrogated soon. The owner would also be arrested if it is found that he was well aware of the fact that the car would be used to kill Shrinu.

It may be recalled that the police had claimed that there was an influential person behind the crime and the person is still at large.
