Book Fair: 'Safe Drive Save Life' Theme Of Kolkata Police Pavillion

'Safe Drive Save Live' is the Kolkata Police's theme this year for its pavilion in International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF) that witnesses an average record footfall of around 25 lakh visitors every year.

IKBF is the largest attended book fair in the world. Thus the top brass of the Kolkata Police have decided to make Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's initiative for the state-wide campaign against rash driving -"Safe Drive Save Live" - to be the theme of the stall as it would help create awareness among more people.

The decision was taken in a meeting headed by Sujay Chanda, Joint Commissioner of Police (establishment) on Saturday.

Banerjee had launched the campaign to check the growing rate of accidents that had claimed several lives. It may be mentioned that the number of fatal accidents in India were more than most other countries and some states including Bengal were identified for a record number of road accidents in the past few years.

Kolkata Police conceive a particular theme every year. Last year it was "Pranam", which is a project of community policing for elderly people in the city. The pavilion gets designed based on the theme. Thus, this year, both the exterior and interior of the pavilion will be dedicated to "Safe Drive Save Live" campaign.

The designers would start working soon on the design of the pavilion after the theme was finalised on Saturday. According to a police officer, the pavilion will be designed in such a way that one could easily realise the need of safe driving.

IKBF will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister on January 25 and it will continue till February 5. On all the days, there will be dedicated desks in the pavallion where officers of the city police's traffic department will interact with visitors. The main target of the officers would be to make more and more people aware about the hazards of rash and reckless driving.

Other departments of the Kolkata Police including Detective Department, Disaster Management Group, Women Police and Community Policing Section will be having separate desks. Each department will make their respective brochures and leaflets to create awareness on different issues. But there will be mention of "Safe Drive Save Life" in all different types of brochures and leaflets.

Delegates from abroad, other parts of the country and people from across the state visit IKBF every year. Thus the initiative would help to spread the message among many specially the children from one particular place.
