Locals suspect youth to be thief, thrash him

Local people beat up a youth on mere suspicion that he had stolen some articles from a house in the area.

The incident took place at Harihartala near Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas. Local people alleged that there had been repeated incidents of theft in the area for the past few days. On Saturday morning they caught the youth suspecting him to be a thief. They first forced him to take bath in cold water of a pond and then tied him up against a street light. They beat him up mercilessly.

Police went to the spot after receiving the information and rescued the youth.
