PricewaterhouseCoopers to set up city's 1st cyber security excellence centre

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) announced setting up its first global cyber security excellence centre in Kolkata.

The announcement was made by a top official of PwC at the third edition of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) atMilan Mela on Saturday, which was concluding day of two-day-long Global Business Summit.

Talking to the Millennium Post at BGBS, Shivarama Krishnan, the partner, Cyber Security PwC, said that the investment has already been done. Now the work would be underway.
"Yes, it would be the first cyber security excellence centre of PwC across the globe. It will be set up at Salt Lake's Sector V at the company's Kolkata unit," said Krishnan.

The global consultancy giant has been working to secure the cyber properties for long. Krishnan, one of the key faces of the company in this subject lauded Bengal government's recent activities.
"The Bengal government has taken various interesting steps in this regards. The government's cyber security excellence centre will do well here," Krishnan added.

He, however, further said that cyber security is of utmost importance in today's world.

The recent incident in Bangladesh Bank, where hackers managed to take away money, several credit card and ATM fraud incidents in India deepens the concerns.
"Those criminals are extremely skilful. They are well funded. And if you are thinking that, you are safe, than I will tell you that you are living in fool's world," Krishnan added."No data is secured until you are aware of the safety measures. Your data can be robbed anytime. So windows defender or any anti-virus cannot save your data. You need to be aware of it," Krishnan said.

Meanwhile, state Information Technology department principal secretary Talleen Kumar said that the government has decided to set up a centre of excellence in cyber security, which the state Cabinet approved recently.

The universities will soon include the subject of cyber safety management in their curriculum."You know, Bengal has become the most emerging destination across the nation in information technology sector. Our e-governance is now a model to follow.

But the creating proper cyber security was necessary for combating crimes," Kumar said.

The government has been taking up different measures to combat threats from cyber attacks.Many such research and development (R&D) are going on at present.

The state data centre has been upgraded. The state owned cyber excellence centre will have experts equipped with the best and most sophisticated instruments.
