Prabhu flags off Howrah-Yesvantpur Humsafar Express

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday flagged off the Howrah-Yesvantpur Humsafar Express and inaugurated a number of passenger amenity works of South Eastern Railway and Eastern Railway by remote from Darjeeling.

He also flagged off the Commercial Services of a Rehabilitated NGEF Rake with improved passenger amenities and inaugurated an additional (3rd) platform at Noapara. He also inaugurated a Lift at Down Platform of Dum Dum Metro Station by remote control.

A programme was held at Noapara Metro station where Saugata Roy, MP, M.C. Chauhan, General Manager, Metro Railway, all officers and staff of Metro Railway and large number of passengers were present.

With the commissioning of this new platform at Noapara station, two trains in Up and Down directions can be moved simultaneously. Saugata Roy in his speech appreciated Metro Railway's endeavour and said that passengers will be highly benefitted from these initiatives of Metro Railway and advised the Metro Railway authorities to take more such initiatives in the coming days. The fully air-conditioned train with additional passenger amenities left for Yesvantpur from Howrah in its inaugural run, SER sources said, adding the regular run of 22887/22888 Howrah-Yesvantpur-Howrah Weekly Humsafar Express will start from January 26 from Yesvantpur and on January 31 from Howrah.

22887 Humsafar Express would leave Howrah every Tuesday at 12.40 PM and reach Yesvantpur the next day at 9.35 PM, while in the return direction 22888 Humsafar Express would leave Yesvantpur every Thursday at 9.55 AM and arrive at Howrah at 6.30 PM the next day, the sources said. The train would have stoppages at Kharagpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Brahmapur, Palasa, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Ongole, Renigunta and Katpadi between Howrah and Yesvantpur.

The Minister also inaugurated the 14.30 km long double line between Jiaganj and Cossimbazar of Eastern Railway's Sealdah Division, ER sources said. Other double line projects between Azimganj Cabin Poradanga in Malda Division, between Azimganj Cabin Gosaingram of Howrah Division were also inaugurated.

The completion of the double line between Nalhati-Azimganj Cabin will facilitate coal transportation to and from Sagardighi Thermal Power Plant, the sources said. Prabhu also inaugurated the 17.69 km long double line between Lebutala and Champapukur Section of ER's Sealdah Division, the sources added.
