New Town model to be replicated in other areas of state: Firhad Hakim

Kolkata: New Town is a model of development and the state government will replicate it in other parts of the state, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister Firhad Hakim said on Wednesday.
He also lauded the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, the biggest of its kind in the country. He inaugurated an online social media platform in New Town and three booklets at the International Kolkata Book Fair.
Hakim launched the New Town City Connect, a social networking website and also released a booklet on Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
New Town City Connect is an online social media platform which offers a seamless inter and intra office digital communication including the non-official stakeholders. It follows a 360-degree approach. Digitally empowered, it seeks to leverage the social media platform to assess the needs and aspirations of the various stakeholders of the city. This is in addition to the existing platforms like m-mobile app, website, mass SMS gateway, existing social media interface pages etc.
Augmented Reality Booklet (Edition 2) on Biswa Bangla Convention Centre is the first-of-its-kind app-based booklet that the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) has prepared to promote the Convention Centre and is very easily accessible.
Scan the QR code from the booklet and download the app called Convention Centre AR. After that, open the app and position the phone camera at the top of any image in AR booklet, hold the device on the top of it for a few seconds and the image will go live on the mobile. New Town Info Book (Edition 2) is a one-stop handbook containing all necessary details regarding this city including the addresses, phone numbers and other details of various government offices and non- government establishments and facilities located within its periphery. This handbook is of immense help to the residents and other stakeholders for the city as it offers a single stop source of data. Edition Ii of this book is an improvement over its earlier version as it contains additional data.
