New Town gets the fastest e-vehicle charging station in Bengal

Kolkata: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) on Sunday installed e-vehicle charging station in New Town, which is capable of charging a four-wheeler in an hour.

The charging station has come up in front of Mother's Wax Museum and has been set up by a company that has over 40 years of expertise in power technologies such as energy-efficient EV charging solutions.

"For the first time in the state such a fast charging e-vehicle station has come up. Vehicles can be charged at the rate of Rs 100 per hour," a senior official of NKDA said.

The company is using technology from Taiwan to put up the infrastructure in the charging station. "The move is a part of our sustained efforts to reduce carbon emissions and move towards a cleaner, greener sustainable environment," the official added.

NKDA has already come up with 10 e-vehicle charging points at strategic locations in New Town in a bid to encourage more people to use e-vehicles. Vehicles can be charged in five hours at these charging stations. The charge for two wheelers is Rs 10 an hour while the charge for a four wheeler is Rs 20 an hour at these

e-vehicle charging points.

The NKDA has already earned a revenue of

Rs 36,000 from these e-charging stations. The charging stations are located at parking lots near Rabindra Tirtha, Tata Medical Centre, Nazrul Tirtha, Gates 1/4/6 of Eco Park, Café Ekante, Axis Mall, Eco Urban Village and Central Mall so that people can charge their vehicles while waiting.

This apart, Indian Oil's COCO (Company Operated Company) owned smart outlet at Action Area 3 has electric vehicle charging units. There are also three heavy duty charging stations located at the bus terminal near Pride Hotel, AA3 bus-stand near Sukhobristi and Eco Urban Village in AA2, for running electric buses. New Town has three electric AC buses running successfully.

New Town has already achieved the status of a Gold Rate certified Green City and has got the certificate from IGBC (Indian Green Building Council. It is a city under the state government's Green City Mission.
