New road and bridge to boost connectivity in Hooghly

Kolkata: To further improve communication in Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has approved the allocation of Rs 1,779 crore for a 21 km multi-laned road from Mogra in Hooghly district to Kalyani in Nadia district, which includes a bridge over the Hooghly.
The detailed project reports (DPR) for the project has been prepared.
The road will be built from Mogra to Saptagram and from there to the Hooghly, where it will join the bridge, whose other end will be connected to the road from Kalyani to Barjaguli.
The road will be four-laned while the bridge will be six-laned, with a width of 700 metres. The Chief Minister has instructed that the bridge should have an attractive design. It will be a cable-stayed bridge, and is being designed by a company from Denmark.
Besides the places through which the road will pass, indirectly, people from the districts of Purba Bardhaman and North 24 Parganas will also be benefitted.
