Netaji Indoor Stadium hosts first-ever Traffic Expo

Kolkata: The first ever Traffic Expo in the city has started at Netaji Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.
Firhad Hakim, state Urban Development minister and Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, who is also the state Fire and Emergency Services minister, inaugurated the Traffic Expo that will continue till January 12.
Besides the stalls displaying different modern gadgets those are necessary for ensuring safety on roads, a national conference on traffic safety is also scheduled on Thursday and Friday at the Netaji Indoor Stadium itself. Delegates from all across the country are going to attend the national conference.
After inaugurating the Traffic Expo, both the ministers moved around the expo and had a look at the modern equipment which can be used for better traffic management. The top brass of the Kolkata Police and Kolkata Traffic Police have shown them the mechanism that has been adopted to check over-speeding of vehicles.
Hakim said: "The traffic security system in Kolkata has been developed to an international standard and Kolkata Police is at present the best in the country in traffic security management. This is the first time when latest technologies from different parts of the country and abroad are being provided."
He further said flow of traffic in urban parts has gone up and necessary measures especially the Safe Drive Save Life campaign has helped in checking accidents a lot.
Appreciating the move of the Kolkata Police, Chatterjee said: "Today, traffic is smoother compared to any other city in the country and the Kolkata Police have taken necessary steps in ensuring the same."
The police officers demonstrated how special cameras installed at various points can easily capture the registration number of a vehicle that has crossed the speed limit and automatically generate an SMS stating the same.
