Needles pierced in eyes of man on suspicion of being thief in Sonarpur

Kolkata: Some people allegedly beat up and pierced needles into the eyes of a person on mere suspicion that he is a thief. The incident took place at Kamatia village near Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas on Sunday night.
Police said that the local people had caught a person from a market in the area suspecting him to be a thief and took him inside a shop.
They had caught him when he was having some food. Suspicion of the people rose as he didn't give any reply to their questions that from where he got the money to buy the food he was having.
Another reason behind suspecting him to be a thief was his abnormal behaviour. He hardly spoke to the local people and the suspicion became stronger as he was new in the place.
Hardly anyone had seen him in the area before and so they considered him to be a thief. They beat him up on mere suspicion without approaching the police.
They beat him up mercilessly after taking him inside a shop. They had closed the shop and thus others from outside couldn't hear the victim's cries for help.
The accused pierced needles in his eyes when the victim didn't speak out a word despite being beaten up mercilessly. They had tied the victim with a pole inside the shop and roughed him up him till he fell almost unconscious.
Later some people from the area went to the spot and felt that something was taking place inside the shop. They kept knocking on the door of the shop but no one responded from inside.
One of the accused came out when the local people were attempting to break open the door of the shop and claimed that the victim was a thief.
Without listening to the accused, the local people rescued the victim and took him to hospital and informed the police about the incident. Police initiated a probe in this connection.
