NCB and security forces seize contrabands, two arrested

The NCB backed by security forces conducted two separate raids in Cooch Behar district on Wednesday and recovered ganja, opium, one improvised firearm and ammunition. Two persons have been arrested. The NCB backed by the 17 battalion of the SSB raided the house of one Shyamal Barman at Kanchiyarkuthi, Kotwali, Cooch Behar. "262 kg of ganja, one improvised pistol of .303 bore and 8 rounds of live 8 mm ammunition was seized from the premises.

The ganja with a market value of 35 lakhs was scheduled to be shipped to Kolkata. 30-year-old Barman has been arrested," stated Dilip Srivastava, Zonal Director, NCB, Kolkata. In the other raid, NCB in a joint operation with 34 battalion SSB in the wee hours of Wednesday morning raided the premises of one Narayan Biswas at Indrakhuti village, Mathabhanga, Cooch Behar. 1.03 kg opium and 68 kg ganja was recovered. "This was cultivated in the nearby villages. It was to be shipped to Murshidabad with the help of local peddlers. Cost of the drug is to the tune of Rs 45 lakh. Biswas has been arrested," added Srivastava.
