Nazrul Tirtha to screen documentary in bid to pay homage to Shashi Kapoor

Kolkata: Nazul Tirtha will organise a special screening of a documentary to pay tribute to recently deceased Bollywood legend Shashi Kapoor.

The documentary and a Hindi film starring the matinee idol will be screened on December 17 at 6.30pm. Invitation cards will be available at the reception of Nazrul Tirtha on first-come first-serve basis.

Nazrul Tirtha in New Town is coming up a major cultural centre. Movies are shown regularly here and those who live in Salt Lake and some of the adjoining areas of North 24-Parganas like Barasat and Mdahyamgram as well as VIP Road, come to watch movies at Nazrul Tirtha regularly. Some movies of Kolkata International Film Festival were also screened at Nazrul Tirtha. Shashi Kapoor was born in Kolkata, the cultural capital of the country and stayed with his parents and two elder brothers Raj and Shammi at a house on the SP Mukherjee Road-Hazra Road intersection. Prithviraj Kapoor had moved to Kolkata with his two sons and spouse. He was close to BN Sarkar of New Theatres, Debaki Bose and actors like Pramathesh Barua and Durgadas Banerjee. Shashi had his initial schooling in Kolkata but later the Kapoor family moved to Mumbai.

Shashi Kapoor was close to two Bengali actors and directors. With Utpal Dutta he had a close relation because of the former's involvement in Shakespearewalla. He was also close to Rishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee. Though he did not act in any of the films of Satyajit Ray, he had a cordial relationship with the maestro who was quite close to Raj Kapoor, who had a connection with Tollywood. Ray, who usually avoided parties, had attended some which were thrown by Raj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor was also a friend of Uttam Kumar and had visited the latter's flat on Moira Street.
