Name fiasco: Viral video tries to put HIDCO in a spot

Kolkata: In yet another example of fanning communal sentiments, BJP is circulating a viral post on social media, accusing that Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) has changed the name of New Town Water Treatment Plant to "New Town Pani Sodhonagar."
In the viral post, BJP has raised a question on whether HIDCO is catering to a particular community, which translates water as "pani".
In reality, 'New Town Water Treatment Plant' is written on the plant's gate and no Bengali translation is given. The social media post clearly indicates that BJP is trying to divide the two communities by spreading canards.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had urged young party supporters at the rally in Siliguri on Monday to do social networking and protest against the viral post put up by BJP on social media to allegedly fan communal tension.
During her speech on Monday, Banerjee had referred to a viral post uploaded by BJP for the past few days, which showed that the month of February in the calendar has 30 days. The calendar, BJP alleged, is published by Jago Bangla, Trinamool's Bengali organ.
Refuting BJP's allegations, Banerjee said "It is absolutely false. We have written to BJP asking it to take down the social media post. But they have not withdrawn it."
She had also referred to another viral post which was circulated by BJP, during a fracas that had broken out in North 24-Parganas in 2017, which revealed a women being beaten up. "It was taken from a film and was being circulated by BJP," she said.
