Nagerbazar blast: Another victim succumbs to injuries

Kolkata: The death toll in Nagerbazar blast case reached two after fruit seller Ajit Halder was declared dead at R G Kar Hospital on Saturday night. Sources informed that he had multiple injuries in his abdomen and on the back portion which led to his death.

On Sunday, his wife Shefali Halder demanded strong action against the culprits behind the blast. Ajit used to sell fruits at the place where the blast occurred on October 2.

During preliminary investigation, the sleuths became sure that the socket bomb was placed just beside Ajit's fruit stall.

Later the case was handed over to state Criminal Investigation Department (CID). A team from CID went to the hospital to question Ajit about what happened on October 2. According to the sources, Ajit told sleuths about a person having a dark complexion, who asked him to keep a bag for some time and would return after buying some Atta.

The blast happened within a few minutes after the person left. Hearing this, the CID officials were mulling interrogating Ajit further after his health recovery. As he died on Saturday night, the sleuths may find difficulties to move on with the investigation. However, the CID officials are quite sure that the investigation will not stop despite Ajit's death as they have information from other sources.

On Sunday, Shefali demanded strongest action against the persons behind the blast. He urged the officials to nab the guilty persons and deliver justice.

"After he got admitted to the hospital, he kept saying that he wants to get released and go home. On Saturday night, the doctors told me that his health condition deteriorated. After a few hours, they informed that he was no more. I do not know what to do," said Shefali.

Earlier, an eight-year-old boy identified as Bihas Ghosh died after he sustained multiple injuries in the blast. He was standing close to the site.

On October 2, a socket bomb blasted at Kajipara near nagerbazar. Though police said it was a low intensity blast, locals alleged otherwise.

Later the CID officials confirmed the police that it was a socket bomb. But due to the impact of the bomb blast, window glasses shattered in two four-storied buildings.

The shutter of a shop just opposite the blast site was also badly damaged.
