Mystery over deaths of two housewives in state

Kolkata: Two housewives were found dead under mysterious circumstances in two separate incidents — one in the city and the other in Birbhum.
The first incident took place at Muraripukur area of Manicktala on Sunday morning where a housewife's body was found hanging from the ceiling fan. The victim has been identified as Nandita Biswas. The family members of the victim have, however, alleged that she was murdered at her in-laws' house after her father failed to provide dowry.Around one-and-a-half year ago, Nandita, a resident of Bankura got married to Tanmay Biswas, a resident of Manicktala. It has been alleged that the woman had been subjected to both mental and physical torture at her in-laws' house. Nandita's family members have alleged that since her marriage she had been tortured for dowry.
The family members of the victim lodged a complaint in the Maniktala police station on the basis of which the police have arrested the victim's husband Tanmay Biswas. The family members were informed that Nandita had committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan. They alleged that she was throttled to death and later her body was kept in a manner so that it appears to be a case of suicide. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident. In another incident a newly married woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws' house at Birbhum's Santiniketan. The victim was married to one Raja Mishra also a resident of Santiniketan. The kin of the deceased alleged that the woman's husband used to torture her for dowry. They also alleged that the accused had developed an extra-marital affair about which his wife had come to know. Three members including the husband of the woman have been held.
