Mystery death: Woman found hanging at in-laws' house

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her in-laws' house on late Tuesday night.
The family members of the victim alleged that she had been murdered. On the basis of the specific complaint lodged by her family members, police have arrested her husband. His family members have been absconding since the incident took place.
The woman's family members also told the police that she had been tortured both physically and mentally at her in-laws' house since her marriage around 16 months ago. The victim, Dipika Dutta Majumdar (20), a resident of Pairadanga in Nadia got married to one Arghya Dutta of Ghola in North 24-Parganas. Arghya, an employee of a private company used to torture her on various pretext.
The victim's family members told the police that on Tuesday night they received a phone call from her in-laws saying that she was admitted to Panihati State General Hospital. When they reached the hospital, the victim had already died. There were marks around her ligature neck. Her family members alleged that the victim might have been killed by strangulating her and later she was taken to the hospital for treatment. Neither her husband nor her in-laws were present at the hospital when they reached the spot.
They lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws at Ghola police station on the basis of which police have arrested her husband. The body of the woman has been sent for the postmortem.
Police are waiting for the report that can throw some light on her death. Police are also interrogating the locals in this connection so far. Police are yet to confirm the exact reason of behind her death. A detailed probe has been initiated.
