Muslin products gain popularity in Biswa Bangla outlets

Kolkata: The muslin products sold through Biswa Bangla outlets, are in high demand.
Having its origin in Dhaka, muslin fabric is the pride of Bengal, when it comes to handmade fabrics. Made of the finest cotton and weaved into a glossy and a very light fabric, it is a sign of royalty and luxury.
The 'Mughal favourite' fabric is made into sarees, handkerchiefs and jewellery for women and on the other hand, they are weaved into shirts for men. Among other products and artifacts of similar nature, the products made of muslin are slightly on the higher side of the price scale.
The starting price for muslin sarees is around Rs 10, 000. Walking through the store, the glossy jewellery and sarees are a quick attraction grabber for the eyes of the customers.
The fine variety of the products is mostly a favourite of the people who come as tourists and are a part of the crowd outside Bengal. They buy muslin items from the store as souvenirs to be carried back home or to gift their special ones.
Another group of people who love experimenting with their choice of clothes are the older people, mostly those above the age of 55. They prefer muslin products for special occasions and hence, love buying such items.
Muslin contains a piece of royalty that has been an age-old heritage of this country and especially the state of Bengal.
After coming to power in Bengal in 2011, Mamata Banerjee had taken a special initiative to organise the weavers. There are around 300 families, who are associated with the production of Muslin sarees. They have been given training by experts and a muslin hub has come up at Nadia.
Along with sarees, they are now manufacturing muslin kurta, pyjama, kurti, handkerchief, bed lines and costume jewellery. The kurta pyjama and kurti are available in different colours and are in high demand.
