Museum to be made in Sanskrit College and University to depict old Kolkata

Kolkata: The Sanskrit College and University (SCU) will come up with a museum depicting old Kolkata, with its aristocracy and rich cultural history.
As the university campus is located on College Street popularly known as boipara, the history of this area will be given special emphasis in the proposed museum.
Various articles that are associated with the lifestyle of the common people of the 19th century like their clothes, varied hand made articles and ornaments worn by the women folk will be a part of the museum.
"People during those times used utensils made of bell metal and brass. This will be a part of the collection of the museum," a senior official of the university said.
The Harappa Mohenjo Daro civilization has been depicted through museums. The SCU will
follow a similar pattern in highlighting the nostalgia and culture of old Kolkata through the museum.
Vice-Chancellor of SCU Paula Banerjee said: "The history of College Street, the history of education in Bengal and the socio-economic lifestyle of the intellectuals during those time will come alive through the museum."
The relation between the owners and tenants of old Kolkata, the transformation of the book shops in the college street area will be presented in information and replica format in the museum. Furniture made from sal and segun wood, stone utensils that were used in those times will also be a part of the museum's collection.
It may be mentioned that SCU is consulting curator of Victoria Memorial Jayanta Sengupta who has agreed to extend help to the university. The SCU will appeal to common people to contribute collections pertaining to the history and heritage of old Kolkata.
Some alumni of SCU have already contributed for the museum. The book sellers are also supplying information about the boi para.
The university is also starting a certificate course on Theory of Devotion (Upasana Tatya ) from this academic year. The purohits as well as the students can join this new certificate course.
