Mukul Roy's aide arrested in cheating case

Kolkata: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested one Debashis Das alias Dinu, who is known to be close to estranged Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy, from Baguiati late on Tuesday night on charges of cheating people after assuring them help to get some of their work done.

A team comprising officers of CID conducted a raid at Jangra Dakshin Math near Baguiati in North 24 Parganas.

He was arrested in connection with a complaint lodged against him with Habra police station in North 24 Parganas on October 13.

He was booked on various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of cheating (420 IPC) and criminal breach of trust (406 IPC).

The police had been probing into the incident and wanted to interrogate Debashis in this connection as there was allegation of cheating some people against him. The police will be interrogating Debashis to get further information about the case in which allegations of cheating was raised against him.

Another team of CID officers also conducted a raid in the house of Sujit Sham, who was also known to be close to Roy. Sources said that the CID officers went to a place in South 24 Parganas where he used to reside. The CID officers had also conducted raids in his house at Indus in Bankura. Sources said that the raid in the house of Sujit has been conducted to carry out a search operation in connection with a case of cheating.
