Mrinal Sen completes 96

Kolkata: Retired Justice Chittotosh Mookerjee, chairman of Calcutta Cultural Centre along with some of its members went to the flat of Mrinal Sen on Sunday on the eve of his 96th birthday and wished him good health. Sen turned 96 on Monday. Mookerjee presented him a silver plaque, some books and a uttariya. Sen stays alone at the flat after the demise of wife Gita. Their only son Kunal stays in Chicago and comes to see his father frequently.
Pallav Mitra, secretary of the organization said they had felicitated Jolly Mohan Kaul who is now 98. Kaul a leftist thinker also stays alone after the death of Manikuntala Sen. The organization proposes to felicitate folk singer Amar Pal. Mitra said the organisation remembers the contribution of elderly people and has decided to honour them.
