Mouth-watering 'Rasogolla Utsav' to be held in city

Kolkata: "Rasogolla Utsav" is going to be held in the city after Bengal got Geographical Indication (GI) tag for "Banglar Rasogolla".
The programme will be held sometime in March and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would grace the ocassion with her presence. Although the venue and other aspects of the utsav are yet to be finalised, a team comprising of sweet manufacturers in the city had gone to the Chief Minister's residence at Kalighat on Monday morning with their proposal to organise the programme.
It may be recalled that on November 14, the day when it was announced that Bengal has been conferred with the patent for "Banglar Rasogolla", Mamata Banerjee had tweeted: "Sweet news for us all. We are very happy and proud that #Bengal has been granted GI (Geographical Indication) status for Rasogolla."
Officials of the Bengal government had found out the history and references of the existence of Rasogolla in the state back in 1968 when it was being made popular by Nabin Chandra Das at Sutanuti.
The officials have also put forward documents including literature with the reference of Bengal's Haradhan Moira as another person behind the invention and popularity of Rasogolla. The state Agriculture department asked the state Agricture Marketing department to take steps to make Rasogolla available in the Krishi Melas at sub-division levels which are to be held till December 25. It has been decided to give Rasogollas at "no profit no loss" proposition to celebrate Bengal's win in getting GI tag for "Banglar Rasogolla".
The step has been taken to ensure that the celebration reaches to the grassroot level and the people residing there can be a part of it.
The state Agriculture department has also urged the agriculture department to sell Gobindabhog rice at the same proposition in the krishi melas. Bengal has also got the GI tag for Tulaipanji and Gobindabhog varieties of rice on October 28.
