Monsoon to hit S Bengal in 24 hrs

Kolkata: The wait for monsoon is likely to get over soon as the Alipore Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted that South Bengal will experience rain in the next 24 hours.

The forecast comes at a time when the South Bengal districts have been reeling under severe heat spell, especially Western districts like Bankura, Purulia, West Midnapore and Jhargram.

According to a senior weather official, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to hit the districts like North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore and Kolkata in the next 48 hours. It was learnt that monsoon has currently been situating along the Indo-Bangladesh border and is expected to hit South Bengal any time in the next 24 hours.

As per the weather experts, monson arrived late as the low pressure troughs were absorbing the vapour from the air. A low pressure trough had formed over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal triggering thundershowers in various South Bengal districts during the afternoon in the past few days. The coastal districts also witnessed rainfall in the late night hours due to the low pressure.

Monsoon had already entered North Bengal districts couple of days ago. As a result, there had been moderate to heavy showers in all the North Bengal districts.
