Miscreants loot nearly Rs 1.5 lakh from bank branch in Howrah

Kolkata: Miscreants looted cash worth nearly Rs 1.5 lakh from a nationalised bank situated adjacent to Howrah station late on Sunday night.
They entered the bank by breaking open a window situated on its back side and the cops said that a hole on the wall where the vault is situated was made.
The locals on Monday morning found that the back side window of the branch office lay broken and the matter was reported to the police who rushed to the spot. The bank officials were also informed.
The local residents raised the security issue as to how the miscreants had managed to enter the branch which is situated at a stone's throw distance from the Government Railway Police office of Howrah.
They also raised questions on the security of the passengers at the railway station.
Police have started a probe in this regard. The bank officials are also investigating if the security alarm bell had rung when the thieves entered the bank.
The bank officials are yet to officially confirm the amount that has been looted by the miscreants.
It is not yet clear if they were able to open the vault of the bank or not. No arrests have been made yet.
