Miscreants loot electronic goods, cash from South Kolkata residence

Kolkata: In a daring theft, a gang of miscreants fled away with a valuable watch, an LED television set and some cash from a residence on Jatin Das Road in Lake police station area on Saturday night. Interestingly, the gang also took away the key of their car that was parked just in front of the residence and drove away from the spot with the stolen articles.

It may be mentioned that all the three miscreants had their faces covered.

However, the sequence of their boarding the car and escaping from the spot has been clearly captured on the CCTV outside the building. Sleuths from Lake police station and officers from the anti-burglary section of Kolkata Police's detective department visited the spot and collected the footage.

Sources informed that Debasish Batabyal along with his family was asleep when the three miscreants barged into the house. They cut open the grill in the verandah to enter the house. Though the family was awakened by the noise, they didn't challenge the three as they were carrying some sharp cutting instruments.

There are several CCTV's installed in the house of the Batabyal family as there had been attempts of theft at their residence on more than one occasion.

Following these attempts, the family had installed CCTV s in certain places inside the residence. However, the miscreants pointed the cameras in some other direction so that they fail to capture their movements inside the house.

"The investigation is on. We are not ruling out the role of insiders in the case," an investigating officer said.
