Miscreants loot cash worth Rs 10L from Liluah flat

Kolkata: Unidentified miscreants decamped with Rs 10.68 lakh from a house at Liluah in Howrah on Monday morning.
Police said the owner of the house, Subhas Barui, had sold a plot a few days ago and he had kept the entire money that is Rs 10.68 lakh in his house.
It was on Wednesday, Barui and his family members went out of station for a trip. He had left his son-in-law, Biren Chowdhury, to look after the house.
On Sunday night, Chowdhury came out of the house as there was a power cut. The miscreants were keeping a watch at him and they overpowered him and took him inside the house.
Chowdhury told police that there were around six miscreants and they tied his hands and legs inside a room. They searched the entire house to find out the money. But they couldn't and started beating up Chowdhury. They finally threatened him to kill and asked him to tell where Barui had kept the money.
Apprehending that they would kill him, Chowdhury told them that the money was in an almirah. But the key was not with him as Barui had taken it along with him.
So, they break open the almirah with iron rods and took the money away.
Before leaving the place, the miscreants locked Chowdhury inside one room. Locals found the main gate of the house open for long hours and it led to their suspicious. They heard Chowdhury's cry for help when they entered the house and rescued him. A complaint was lodged with the police and preliminary investigation revealed that Barui had kept the money at home as he is constructing another house in the vicinity.
Police suspect that someone well known to the family is behind the crime as it would not be possible for anyone to know that the money was at the house itself.
