Miscreants lock lady inside toilet at Baguiati, decamp with valuables, gold jewellery

Kolkata: Unidentified miscreants decamped with valuables including gold jewellery weighing 20 bhori after locking a housewife inside a toilet in an incident of dacoity at Baguiati on Sunday evening.

The house in which the incident of dacoity took place is situated in a congested market place and it is suspicious as to how the miscreants managed to carry out the entire operation in the evening without even a single person noticing it.

Police said the miscreants went to the house of one Kartik Kundu, who owns a printing business on College Street. His wife, Swapna, was all alone inside the flat when the incident took place.

There were three youth who went inside the building by opening the main gate and managed to reach the first floor that houses the Kartik's flat. They knocked on the door which was then close from inside. They posed as Kartik's acquaintances when his wife opened the door and convinced her to give them access to the flat.

They initiated their operation soon after getting inside the flat. First of all, they locked Swapna inside the toilet and threatened her with dire consequences.

The woman told police that the miscreants were wearing helmets and also had gloves on their hands. They threatened to kill her and managed to open an almirah where the couple had kept all their jewellery. They were inside the flat for around 15 to 20 minutes and took away all their jewellery leaving the woman inside the toilet with her hand and legs tied.

A few hours later, the victim was rescued and she narrated the entire incident to the police.

Police initiated a probe but are yet to arrest anyone in this connection. They suspect that when three of them had entered the flat, a member of their group was standing outside the building to keep a watch whether anyone was coming. No one even had a doubt as all four of them crossed the busy market place like commoners. Cops are considering that the miscreants didn't leave the place together. Instead they moved out one by one so that no one doubts them. They are also going through footages of surveillance cameras.
