Minor girl rescued after cabbie rapes her inside car

An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a cab driver inside a vehicle at Palm Avenue. Police said that the man lured the girl with chocolates when she was playing in front of her house at around 7.30 pm on Friday.

On hearing the girl screaming for help from the car, a patrolling jeep of the local police station rushed there. The officers arrested the accused Firoj Ahmed, who was a neighbour of the victim.

According to the police source, medical tests on that Class III girl confirmed rape. "The man was charged with abduction, rape and sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act," the source said.

"The victim and the accused were taken to the Gariahat police station. The victim was later taken to the Calcutta National Medical College for necessary medical tests. On the other hand, police interrogated the accused person where he confessed to his crime," the source added.

Firoj Ahmed, the accused person has a criminal past. He was arrested earlier in connection with different cases. "We'll not let that person live in this area. He is a criminal. There is no guarantee that he would not attack my daughter some day," said a local resident.

The wife of the accused too demanded strong punishment against her husband. "Now it is clear that Firoj had committed the crime. He should be given a strong punishment," said Firoj's wife, who is also mother of a 5-year-old daughter.
