Minor girl raped, murdered by house owner

Kolkata: A minor girl who was a student of Class VI was allegedly raped and murdered by the owner of the house where he used to stay.

The incident took place at Piali area under Baruipur police station in South 24 Parganas on Thursday night.

The body of the minor was recovered from a sack inside an abandoned cow shed beside her house. A rope was tied around her neck.

"We suspect that the girl was strangulated to death. We are examining whether she was raped as per the allegations of the victim's family members," an officer of Baruipur police station said, adding that the body has been sent for post-mortem.

Police has detained the owner of the house Anath Mondal for interrogation.

Locals alleged that the girl was alone in the house on Thursday evening when the accused took her to the kitchen of the house and raped her and then committed murder.

The kitchen was found in a ransacked condition. The body was put in a sack and hidden in the cow shed.

When the girl's parents retuned and found their daughter missing they along with the neighbours began searching following which the body was recovered.

Suspecting that Mondal who was alone in the house was responsible for the crime, they beat him up and also ransacked his house.

One of the neighbours said that they had seen the girl with Mondal inside the house in the evening.

He was rescued by the police from the agitating mob and admitted in a local hospital. Later he was detained for interrogation.
