Minor crack in Maa flyover

Kolkata: A minor crack was found at the Parama flyover popularly known as Maa flyover on Thursday afternoon. A government official, while driving on the flyover, noticed that a layer of cement on the guard wall had cracked on the flank leading to the Ruby Hospital side.
Sources said that he had called Urban Development minister Firhad Hakim who immediately called up Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) CEO Soumitra Mohan. A team of engineers from KMDA rushed to the spot. "A few days back, the height barrier of the Maa flyover got snapped due to a collision resulting from rash driving. We suspect that the minor crack had developed on the wall of the flyover due to the impact of that accident," a KMDA official said.
The restoration work will be taken up on Thursday night and work will be completed by Friday morning. If it is needed, the engineers may close the eastern flank during the night. The vehicle of an officer in charge of Kolkata Police lost control and rammed into the median divider of Maa flyover and side turned at about 12.20 pm while moving towards the west near Park Circus 4 number bridge. The officer and his driver both were injured and rushed to a private hospital in Alipore.
