Midnight mishaps: 2 dead, 12 injured in 3 separate accidents

As accidents after midnight continue unabated in the city and even in other parts of the state, two persons were killed and 12, including a Class XII student, were injured in three separate accidents on Sunday.

Two of them took place in the city in which four were injured while the accident in Purulia claimed two lives and left eight injured.

This comes a day after celebrated model Sonika Chauhan was killed and actor Bikram Chatterjee severely injured in a road accident.

In Purulia, a Tata Winger collided against a truck that was parked at the side of a road near Mekatola More at Nituria in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were returning after attending a marriage party.

Police suspect that the driver had fallen asleep and he lost control over the vehicle that hit behind a stranded truck. Police rushed to the spot and took all of them to Harmaddi Block Primary Health Centre. Two were declared brought dead while eight were shifted to hospitals in Purulia and Asansol with severe injuries.

In Kolkata, a Class XII student, identified as Arghadip Dutta, was injured when his motorbike collided against a truck at Tala in north Kolkata. The accident took place early on Sunday morning.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Arghadip, who is a resident of Girish Park, was riding a bike and two of his friends were on another two-wheeler and were planning a trip to Digha.

But their plan failed as the accident happened before they had managed to leave the city's boundary to take National Highway 6 after crossing Bally Bridge to reach their destination.

Police are suspecting that the victim was in an inebriated state and couldn't control the speeding bike and hit the truck. He was admitted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with severe injuries.

The truck driver, however, managed to flee soon after the accident. The police are going through footages of surveillance cameras to identify the offender.

Three more persons were injured in another road accident in south Kolkata when an app-based cab hit a taxi near Ruby Crossing at around 1.30 am on Sunday. Cops said that the app-based cab was heading towards Gariahat from Ruby Crossing and it hit a taxi that suddenly came out of a lane.

There were two persons on the rear seat of the vehicle. Both, including the driver of the app-based cab, were injured. They were admitted to a nearby hospital.
