Mentally unstable woman climbs tree inside NRS premises

Kolkata: A woman aged about 45 years climbed up a tree inside NRS Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning. After seeing her there, relatives of other patients informed police and hospital authorities. Later, fire brigade and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel rescued her.

According to sources, on Friday morning at around 11:30 am, relatives of patients admitted in the hospital saw a woman on the top of a tree beside the academy building. Some of them asked her to get down. But after a while they understood that the woman is not mentally stable.

Meanwhile, some of them informed hospital authorities and the police outpost inside the hospital. Police subsequently came to the spot and tried to rescue the woman, who was later identified as Pampa Das.

However, Das did not pay any heed to the words of police personnel and kept on jumping from branch to branch. Seeing no other way, fire brigade and DMG were informed.

After almost half an hour, fire brigade and DMG arrived and started the rescue operation. At first a net was set under the tree in case the woman fell down. Following that, fire brigade personnel went up to the tree on a lift trolley to bring down the woman.

But seeing the fire brigade personnel, Das again jumped to another branch. After almost one and half hours, fire brigade and DMG personnel were able to rescue her and brought her down. Questions have come up as to how the woman climbed up the tree with none of the security personnel noticing her.
