Mayor launches book on basic environmental awareness

Kolkata: In a bid to instill knowledge of basic environmental awareness among students in the school level, the state Environment department on Monday unveiled a book that will be circulated in all schools across the state. State Environment minister and Mayor Sovan Chatterjee released the book in presence of state Power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, Environment secretary Arnab Roy and state Pollution Control Board chairman Kalyan Rudra.
"We are trying our level best to make people aware of the importance of environment conservation. We feel that schoolchildren can spread the message of environmental awareness in the best way. We need the support of common people in this endeavour," Chatterjee said.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her greeting message in the book has expressed his optimism that the book titled "Paribesh-er Tore Sokole Amra" will be able to play a leading role to build environmental awareness among students. The book targeted for the students has been prepared in a way to make it interesting for them. The message of environment-related to sound pollution, protection of greenery, conservation of water, preservation of wetlands or waterbodies and the effect of global warming have been presented with cartoons. Three leading cartoonists from the city have been roped in for this venture.
