Mayor chairs high-level meet to prevent incidents of electrocution during Puja

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation along with CESC will ensure the safety aspect for the pandal hoppers by repairing transformers, metre boxes, trident lights and other electrical fittings across the city on a war footing before the Pujas.
Mayor Sovan Chatterjee chaired a high-level meeting with the CESC at the KMC headquarters on Tuesday and asked them to do the needful to prevent incidents of electrocution during the Pujas.
"There are a number of open metre boxes, distribution boxes, light posts with wires dangling in haphazard manner posing risk of electrical hazards. Durga Puja is scheduled next month and there are chances of rain during that time. So we have instructed the CESC to ensure that all measures should be taken to prevent any untoward incidents with a huge turnaround of pandal hoppers," Chatterjee said.
The CESC will also put in placards with dos and dont's at a number of locations where there are electrical installations. The CESC has already started distributing the manual to every consumer along with the electric bills. The same thing will be put in the placards.
Apart from the Mayor and member Mayor in Council (parks and gardens) Debasish Kumar, CESC (Distribution Manager) Avijit Ghosh was also present in the meeting.
It was in the month ofJune when two people — identified as Mohammed Ali Roza and Mohammed Abdul Nazim — were electrocuted at Dent Mission Road in Ekbalpore where a electric wire was lying in the water accumulated following heavy rain.
"We do not want a repeat of such incidents," a KMC official added.
