Massive jam at Vidyasagar Setu after truck side-turns, hits bus

Kolkata: There was massive traffic congestion on Vidyasagar Setu on Monday evening when a road accident happened in which a truck containing tar side-turned after hitting a state-run bus.

The incident led to inconvenience of people returning home from offices. The traffic police, however, took necessary measures and ensured that the congestion got cleared as early as possible.

Police said that the driver of the truck had somehow failed to control its speed and hit the bus. The truck collided against a railing after hitting the bus and side-turned. The accident took place near the toll plaza at the Howrah end of the bridge.

Driver of the truck was rescued by the police and he was taken to SSKM Hospital with severe injuries.

The incident led to traffic congestion on the bridge and caused massive congestion with vehicles found standing in queues one after the other.

It also left an impact on movement of traffic at the Howrah end of the bridge.

The police engaged huge cranes at the earliest possible chance and took the truck aside to clear the road

that ensured smooth movement of vehicles on the bridge again.
