Marwari Relief Society Hospital ransacked after death of patient

Kolkata: A chaos broke out at Marwari Relief Society Hospital on Sunday after family members of a deceased ransacked a portion of the hospital accusing the hospital authorities of negligence that led to the death of the patient.
The victim, Tumpa Rajak, a resident of Bowbazar was admitted to the hospital on Friday after she complained about high fever.
Tension broke out among the patients undergoing treatment at the hospital as an irate mob staged demonstration inside the hospital campus. The incident turned violent when some of the relatives of the deceased stormed into the emergency building of the hospital and started ransacking furniture.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning when Rajak's family members were communicated the news of the patient's death. After being informed, a huge contingent of the police force rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. They pacified the mob with the assurance that a probe would be conducted to ascertain if there was any negligence on the part of the hospital authorities.
The family members of the victim however alleged that the hospital had denied treatment to the patient as they failed to pay the amount demanded by the hospital authorities. The family members claimed that the victim tested positive with dengue. The nursing staff members of the hospital told the patient's relatives that around Rs 1 lakh is needed for administering platelet in the patient. The patient died at around 9 am due to alleged non-treatment.
