Mandakranta alleges gang-rape threat

Poet Mandakranta Sen has been threatened of gang-rape in a Facebook post on Wednesday. She was threatened for expressing solidarity with counterpart Srijato against whom a complaint was lodged a few days ago alleging that his poem had hurt the sentiments of a religious community.

As the Facebook posts in Mandakranta's profile show, one Raja Das commented on Wednesday morning against a particular post of the poet. In the post, she wrote how a "political party" has tried to give political colour to their meeting that was being organised at College Square in support of Srijato.

The poet had written the post on March 25 saying that the meeting which was held at College Square and attended by many of their friends proved that Srijato is not alone despite an attempt being made to give it a political colour.

In reply, Das commented in a filthy and abusive language allegedly "threatening" the poet of gang-rape. Das is not in the friend's list of the poet on the social networking site.

He is a common friend to one who is in the poet's friend list. After four hours of Das' comment, the poet came up with a new post maintaining "gang-rape threat to me" by one Raja Das who is known to one of her friends.

Hundreds of Facebook users posted messages condemning the "threat message" and the language used to disgrace the modesty of a woman.

Mandakranta said: "I feel there is some sort of a political instigation behind this as I have supported Srijato. But I would like to say that such act is harmful to the entire humanity. A complaint will be lodged with the Cyber Crime police station of the Kolkata Police in this regard."

Intellectuals in the city condemned such "attack" on one's right to speech and moreover they were shocked as she has been threatened of "gang-rape".
Poet Joy Goswami added: "I could not imagine that how can one use such a language against a poet and a woman. I condemn such an act."
