Man thrashed for protesting daughter's eve-teasing

Kolkata: A man was badly beaten up by some goons when he tried to save his daughter from being eve-teased.

The incident triggered tension at Malda's Vaishnabnagar area.

Police said that some local youth had been teasing a girl who is a resident of Laxmipur in Malda.

The incident originated on Tuesday night when the victim was returning home with his daughter.

The girl told her father that the accused youth assembled there on the road used to tease her whenever she passes through the area. The man confronted the accused which led to a heated altercation between them. One of the accused reportedly told the father that he would kidnap his daughter and marry her. The quarrel was later settled. When the girl's father was on his way to work on Wednesday morning, the miscreants stopped his way and hit him on his head with an iron road.

They also slashed him with a sharp weapon and fled the spot as the local people came to know about the incident. After hearing the screams, the local residents rushed to the spot and found the victim lying in a pool of blood.

He was rushed to the Malda Medical College and Hospital. The family members of the victim lodged a complaint at the local police station against five persons on the basis of which police started a probe. The police came to know that the miscreants had been teasing the girl for 4-5 months but she did not protest out of fear of being heckled by the accused.

According to the doctors, the victim had received serious injuries on his head and his condition is critical. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
