Man shot dead at Naihati

Kolkata: A man was shot dead by a few miscreants at Naihati in North 24-Parganas on Wednesday night. According to sources, Amarnath Tiwari (45) lived at Hajinagar in Naihati with his wife and two sons.

A few months ago, Tiwari's younger son Asu was involved in an altercation with local miscreants. It is alleged that to take revenge from Asu, these miscreants went to his house on Wednesday night. When Tiwari told that them that his son was not in the house, the miscreants reportedly threatened him and his family. After they left, Tiwari went to Naihati police station and lodged a complaint and returned home. After sometime, about 25 armed miscreants attacked his house. At that time Asu was at home. When miscreants tried to attack Asu, Tiwari stopped them and at that time one of the miscreants shot Tiwari on his chest and they fled the spot.

Tiwari was rushed to Naihati State General Hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. According to his family, miscreants identified as Bihari, Aman and some others were forcing Asu to join their gang. When Asu refused, he became their target. Sources informed that Bihari was a notorious criminal in Naihati. Several cases are pending against him. A few months ago he was arrested for his involvement in a scuffle and was remanded to judicial custody. He was recently granted bail. Till Thursday night no one was arrested. A murder case has been initiated in this regard.
