Man sets wife on fire for buying chocolate for son

Kolkata: A woman from Murshidabad suffered critical burn injuries on Thursday after she was set ablaze by her husband because she had brought a chocolate for their son.

The little boy asked his mother to buy him a chocolate when the family visited the market.

Sukumar Karmakar told his wife not to buy him chocolate but since the kid insisted the mother bought him one. This had infuriated Karmakar and a heated conversation ensued between the couple. The argument turned ugly when the man started attacking his wife.

It was alleged that husband later set the wife on fire. The woman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Her condition is critical as she suffered serious burn injuries. Following the incident, the district police arrested the husband. They are interrogating him why he set his wife on fire. The police are also investigating if the accused was under some kind of stress. The family members of the couple are also being interrogated in this connection.
