Man poses as cop, extorts money to buy speakers for car; arrested

Police on late Thursday night arrested a 35-year-old man who had taken away money from a cooking gas delivery boy posing as a police officer. Investigation revealed that he committed the crime to buy a music system for his car.

Police said that the accused Kajal Saha, alias John, is a car freak and he had left his job just to keep driving car most of the time.

He had recently bought a car. As he had no other means of earning his livelihood, he started pool car services. He used to ferry children of a reputed school in the city.

But even after much efforts he had failed to gather money to buy a speaker system for his car and chose to commit the crime. He stopped the cooking gas delivery boy, Raja Ram Roy, and asked him to give money. He posed him as a police officer posted with Regent Park police station. The incident took place on the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Road. He fled from the area in his car soon after taking the money and his behavior led to suspicion.

Thus, Roy later lodged a complaint with the police. He had also noted down the registration number of the car and later given it to the police. Based on the description given by the boy, the police initiated a search for the accused.

The registration number of the car also helped the police and they came to know that the car takes some children to a school in Central Kolkata. Police conducted raids in some hideouts and arrested the accused. The cops came to know that soon after taking the money from the complainant, the accused went to a store and bought a music system. The police seized the music system too.
