Man 'killed' by brothers over property in Balurghat

BALURGHAT: A man, identified as Dilip Barman, was stabbed to death by his two elder brothers allegedly over a land dispute on Monday night. The incident took place in Shobra Shyampur under Chingispur Gram Panchayat about 21 km from here.

Balurghat police seized a chopper found beside the body and sent it for forensic test to confirm if it was the murder weapon.

The body has been autopsy at Balurghat district hospital. Two accused brothers — Adhir and Sanjit — have been absconding since the incident took place. Local resident Sanjay Barman said there was a longstanding dispute among the three sons of Deben Barman over a plot of land. They had been frequently quarrelling over the issue. On Monday night, Adhir and Sanjit attacked their younger brother Dilip with a chopper.

The accused fled the spot leaving the weapon beside the body. The police were informed after the news started spreading like wild fire.

"We are investigating the case from all the angles. A complaint has been lodged against the accused. We have sent the body for post-mortem and seized the weapon, which was probably used to stab the victim," said a police officer.
