Man jumps out of running train to save valuables from dacoits

Kolkata: Travelling in Down Avadh Assam Express turned out to be a nightmare for the passengers after dacoits snatched valuables from them with one passenger jumping out of the running train to save his valuables.
The incident took place when the train was passing through Dakshin Altagram area of Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri. The victim has been identified as Ajit Kumar Yogi. Originally from Hariyana, Yogi had been living in Assam for quite some time for professional reasons.
Local residents found the victim lying in a pool of blood beside the railway track on Tuesday morning and rushed him to Dhupguri Hospital. The doctors found that he had received critical injuries on his head and several other parts of his body.
As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Jalpaiguri District Hospital. The doctors performed CT scan and various other tests on the victim.
According to the doctors in the hospital, the victim had suffered deep injury in his head and some other parts of his body.
Police have been trying to contact the victim's family members. After being informed about the incident, the Vice Chairman of Dhupguri municipality went to the hospital to see the victim. He has also raised questions on the security of the passengers travelling in the train.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim had jumped out of the running train to save some cash and valuables he had been carrying with him. The dacoits were threatening the passengers of dire consequences if they did not hand over their valuables and belongings to them.
It has been learnt that the gang members pulled the chain and fled after carrying out the operation for nearly ten minutes.
The passengers expressed their concern over the security issue. On the basis of a specific complaint, railway police have started a probe.
