Man held minutes after molesting woman

Kolkata: A person accused of molesting a woman was arrested on Sunday night in New Alipore, within five minutes of police getting information regarding the same.

According to police, on Sunday night at around 8:55 pm, a woman from N S Road in New Alipore called up the police control room in Lalbazar and alleged that a person, who works as a security guard of a building, tried to outrage her modesty. Immediately, the information was conveyed to New Alipore police station and officers there were asked to take prompt action.

Within five minutes, police personnel from New Alipore police station rushed to the spot and arrested the accused security guard, identified as Suresh Singh. He has been booked under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.

A few days ago on June 30, a youth was arrested for allegedly clicking pictures of a young woman inside a running bus. The woman called up the police control room at 10:08 am and stated that a youth was clicking her picture while she was traveling in a bus which was moving towards Sealdah.

Immediately, all traffic police personnel, police stations and divisional mobile vans were informed and instructed to intercept the bus. At 10:15 am, traffic police personnel of Sealdah traffic guard saw the bus in front of NRS Hospital.

When police intercepted the bus, they found that the youth was being manhandled by other passengers. The woman who had called up the police control room was also there inside the bus. The accused youth, identified as Md. Khan of Kulgachhia in Howrah, was detained and handed over to Muchipara police station.
