Man held for 'killing' pregnant wife

Kolkata: A youth was arrested at the Parnasree police station for allegedly murdering his underage pregnant wife.

According to sources, the girl, who was about 16-year-old, got married to the accused youth in December last year. On Tuesday night, the girl was found hanging in her room. She was rushed to Vidyasagar State General Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Her family members claimed that she was murdered. According to deceased's father, the youth and the girl got into a relationship approximately a year ago. In December last year, they fled from their houses and got married. Both the families were not happy but accepted the marriage.

After a few months of their marriage when the girl got pregnant, the youth allegedly started making dowry demands. The father of the girl claimed that the youth and his family members killed his daughter for dowry. After he lodged a complaint at the Parnasree police station, sleuths arrested the youth on Thursday. His family members have fled from the scene. The youth claimed that the girl committed suicide.
