Man held for cheating youths with job promise in police

Kolkata: A person was arrested at Santragachi police station for allegedly duping several persons by promising jobs in Kolkata Police. The accused person was identified as Kalipada Bar of Narendrapur in South 24-Parganas.

The police informed that on September 15, a person identified as Kartick Chandra Pal, a resident of Baksara at Santragachi in Howrah, lodged a complaint at the Santragachi police station against his tenant Kalipada Burman. As per the complaint lodged, during the month of June, Burman took a room on rent from Pal. The accused said he was a sub-inspector (SI) of Kolkata Police, posted in Lalbazar.

Pal also informed that despite he demanded Burman's identity card and other documents such as voter card and Aadhar card, he allegedly bypass the issue by promising to provide them soon. After a few days of interaction with Pal, Burman gained his faith and reportedly told that he can arrange job for Pal's son in Kolkata Police. As Pal's son was not doing anything, he agreed. After a few days Burman reportedly took Pal's son to Police Training School (PTS) and some other places. Following that he demanded Rs 2 lakh along with some documents of his son. But pal told Burman that he could only give Rs 25,000 at that moment.

After a few days of paying Rs 25,000, Burman again asked for the remaining money. As Pal failed to arrange more money, he reportedly gave Burman a gold chain and a gold button which belonged to his wife.

A few days later Burman took Pal's son to some shops to get him police uniforms and other things. On August 26, Burman allegedly called Pal's son to join and meet him in front of PTS. After waiting for Burman for several hours, he did not come. When Pal tried to reach him on his mobile, he found it switched off. After returning home, Pal found several others in the locality were also searching for Burman for the same reason.

After Burman was nabbed on Sunday from Kasba, police found that his original name is Kalipada Bar. Also two uniforms of Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police were seized from his possession. It is suspected that the accused person made Rs 8 lakh by cheating many people.
