Man found hanging in hotel on Shakespeare Sarani; mystery shrouds death

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a person from a neighbouring district whose body was recovered from a hotel room in Shakespeare Sarani police station area in South Kolkata on Sunday morning. The victim Utsav Khullar (35) of Lake View Road, Dhatkhidih, of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand had checked in at room no. 201 of the hotel situated on 6/4, AJC Bose Road on Saturday evening.
It may be mentioned that when the hotel staff found his room bolted from inside and no response came even after repeated knocks they informed the police. The sleuths with the assistance of the hotel staff broke the lock of the door and found him hanging from a ceiling fan with the help of a rope.
The lock was broken under video coverage. It was found that Utsav Khullar was hanging from a ceiling fan using rope.
The sleuths have recovered two hand-written notes from the room of the deceased. One was the suicide note and another was a letter addressed to the hotel with Rs 10,000 as room rent enclosed in it.
"We have informed his family members. It is learnt that he was suffering from depression due to business related problems. An unnatural death case has been initiated, " a senior officer of Shakespeare Sarani police station said. The body has been sent for post mortem. "Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide," a police officer said.
